VX Player ("we", "the app") is a video and audio player for Android. This policy explains what data the app accesses and how it is used. By using VX Player you agree to this policy.
1. Media on your device
VX Player reads video and audio files stored on your device solely to list and play them. This media never leaves your device — it is not uploaded, transmitted, or shared with us or any third party. Delete and rename actions run locally on your device's storage.
Auto subtitles
When you choose Generate subtitles, the app turns the video's audio into subtitles on your device using speech recognition. The video and its audio are never uploaded. Optional translation of those subtitles also runs on your device. The resulting subtitle files stay in the app's private storage until you delete them (Settings → Auto subtitles) or save or share them yourself.
The first time you use the feature, the app downloads what it needs: the speech engine from Google Play, speech models from our public GitHub repository (github.com/sarikkhan/vx-models, with a mirror on Hugging Face if GitHub can't be reached), and, if you translate, a translation model from Google. These are ordinary file downloads: like any website, those servers see your IP address and basic request information under their own policies. Nothing about your videos is sent.
2. Permissions we request
- Media/Storage — to find and play your videos and audio.
- Camera — only when you scan a QR code to pair devices for local file sharing. No images are stored or transmitted.
- Microphone — only when you tap the microphone in Search to search by voice. Your words are turned into text by your phone's speech recognition service (on most phones, Google's), which may process the audio under its own privacy policy. VX Player does not record, store or send this audio itself. Auto subtitles never use the microphone.
- Notifications — to show playback controls and the progress of subtitles being created.
- Display over other apps — for the floating/pop-up player.
3. Data collected by third-party services
The app uses the following Google services, which may collect data as described in their own privacy policies:
- Google AdMob (advertising) — may collect your advertising ID, device information, and app-usage signals to serve and measure ads. See the Google Ads Privacy and AdMob policies.
- Firebase Remote Config — used to toggle app features remotely. It may process a device/app instance identifier. See the Firebase Privacy notice.
- Firebase Analytics — used only to measure how the auto-subtitles feature performs: when a job starts, finishes, is cancelled or fails (with a short error code), the languages chosen, the video length in minutes and how long processing took. Firebase adds device model, OS version, app version, approximate country and an app-instance identifier. We do not send video, audio, subtitle text or file names, and Analytics does not collect your advertising ID. See the Firebase Privacy notice.
- Google ML Kit — used on the device for QR-code scanning and for translating generated subtitles. ML Kit may send Google diagnostic data: device information (manufacturer, model, OS version), app package name and version, a per-installation identifier, performance metrics, error codes and, for translation, the source and target languages chosen. It does not send your video, audio, camera images or subtitle text. Data is encrypted in transit and not shared with third parties. See ML Kit data disclosure.
We do not collect names, email addresses, or accounts. VX Player has no login.
4. Advertising ID
Ads are provided by AdMob using your device's advertising ID. You can reset or limit it in Android Settings → Privacy → Ads.
5. Children
VX Player is not directed at children under 13 and we do not knowingly collect data from them.
6. Data retention & security
We store no personal data on our own servers. Any data handled by AdMob, Firebase (Remote Config, Analytics) or ML Kit is retained under Google's policies.
7. Changes
We may update this policy. Changes are posted on this page with a new "Last updated" date.
